. . . but a good one, I suppose
I wore a red sweater to work today. I figured I might as well embrace the Love holiday.
My kids at school were precious, and I found myself being silly with them all day. Joking around with your students can make the dullest day bright. Especially when you spend most of your time being dictator and babysitter.
About mid afternoon an old friend e-mailed me with a very sentimental Valentine message. I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. A very insignificant comment made my day, and I got to take a much needed stroll down memory lane.
After work, a group of single ladies, and one male friend met together at Starbucks. We celebrated single awareness day, if there is such a thing.
While visiting with a new friend in the parking lot, a stranger approached us asking for money. The tattered woman proceeded to inform us of her plight. Apparently she and her husband were on their way to a small town outside of Abiline to visit her mother who was recovering from open heart surgery. They had run out of gas money, and were in need of assistance. I probed for more information, and in the moment decided to loan her five bucks. I still have no idea if the transaction was above board, but before she headed back to the vehicle I prayed with her. If it was a con, perhaps God used me to convict. If not, I may have entertained angels without even knowing. Either way, it gave me something to blog about. We can always use a random experience every now and again.
When I finally arrived home after a quick shopping trip through SAM's, my oh, so excellent roomate greeted me with a smile. She cooked us chicken & spinach alfredo for dinner, and our friend Angie came over for our usual Monday night ritual. We obsessed over the turn of events in Everwood, and had a couple of good laughs. Talking back to the TV and criticizing fictional characters can be great fun.
I have so many wonderful things to be thankful for in this life. The mundane Monday's aren't so bad after all. I count this years Valentine's Day a raving success. Even if I am single.
